Nutrition for kids is as important and follows the same thumb rules as nutrition for adults. We all require the same set of nutrients — such as vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, protein and fat. But, what we need to cater especially for Children, is the specific nutrients requirements at this age.In a candid conversation at Salaam Namaste Community Radio with Barsha Chabaria, Dr.Khyatee requested the listeners to pledge for good health of kids at every home.

Some basic Thumb Rules and Nutrition formula for kids 

Vegetables

Generally Kids will not fell in love for Vegetables, so the formula which works here is to Serve them a variety of fresh,  frozen or dried vegetables. Always look at a great variety including dark green, red and orange, beans and peas, starchy and others.

Dairy

Always encourage your child to eat and drink fat-free or low-fat dairy products, such as milk, yogurt, cheese .

Protein

Protien intake is so very important for kids.Choose seafood, lean meat and poultry, eggs, beans, peas, soy products, and unsalted nuts and seeds.

Grain

Whole Grain works magic in nutrition for kids. Whole grains, such as whole-wheat bread, oatmeal, popcorn, quinoa, or brown rice. 

Fruits. 

Fresh Fruits or Dried Fruits-They all should be part of your Kid’s Health Diaries.If a kid likes Juice, take care that it has more of real fruits and less of added Sugar .


Target to stay away from  :

Added sugar

For Kids always as less of added Sugars. Limit added sugars. Naturally occurring sugars, such as those in fruit and milk, are not added sugars. Added sugars Means brown sugar, corn sweetener, corn syrup, honey and others. 

Sodium

Inspiring Kids to have snacking on fruits and vegetables instead of chips and cookies. 

Today, processed foods are convenient, but they can also affect your health. Hence, if it’s food, stay natural as much as you can. Natural Food means real food which plays a vital role to maintain good health. Real and Natural food are Unprocessed, free of chemicals or preservatives, and are for sure rich in nutrients.
